Grief

Took my son to the high school info night tonight.  Got there 30 mins late because of meltdown (not mine) due to computer malfunction.  What did me in was the man riding in just before us who was wearing a very similar bike shirt to one Rex has, biking in to the info night as Rex would have done if he was healthy & alive.

Don't take your life for granted.  Don't sweat the small stuff.  Don't complain about being tired.  Because life is too short & too fragile...but also too big.  And out of our control.

Anyway back home now, might even make it yoga at 6am tomorrow.

Believe it or not a purchase from the Darling Harbour craft show...vintage tea cosy for $9. Goes nicely with my ugly green and brown kitchen!!

I've always planned to knit something like this one day but so far there has always been another knitting project...

I am in a Flickr bee called must.stash. The blocks I have just done are for Jeannette of Gone Aussie Quilting. She requested Japanese cross blocks that tell a story. This block tells a story of some of my favorite fabric designers.
It also tells of my love for travel, asymmetry, originality, & of course flowers!

Melbourne shops

When on a visit to Melbourne I do enjoy going to several shops...if I can manage it.
My favourite quilting one is Amitie as is somewhat obvious on this blog.
I came across a couple of  special ones last year at Easter in the middle of town up  some lots of stairs (altho I think there might be a lift too).
I happened on l'uccello.  Lots of beautiful things.
It was just next to Buttonmania (lots of buttons!)

I'm really not sure why these popped into my head tonight.  I spent a fair bit of time today at the destash market at Marrickville Townhall .  Destashing was the name of the game last year but this year I did a bit of restashing (like I need to!!)...and catching up with my world of craft friends. 

It was a lovely market & a good excuse to let the rest of the fam look after themselves for a while.

I've been back to the Circle Game over Christmas holidays. We went away for a little while & I took the handstitching (there wasn't a lot of room for anything else what with the kids & Christmas presents & beach paraphernalia!) I find these quilt blocks very therapeutic in amongst lots of trouble.

Now that I have sent off a doll quilt I feel I can fully reveL in the amazing quilt I received. It was made by Michelle of embellish 2012 who has a lovely colour sense and is a dab hand at embroidery it would seem!

Anyway I was going to say it is quite satisfying to have finished knitting  two (yes 2) garments this year, one for me & one for my littlest girl (who is no longer a baby like above!)

This is my 'that time' by Veera Valimaki...which I have dubbed 'now is the time'. It's really hard to get your kids to take a decent photo of their mum.

The second is another patten by Veera called 'gathering stripes' which is in this version 'gathering rainbows'.  All knitting details on ravelry.

It was last weekend but we won't worry about that. Amitie has a fun stash club which provides a great taster of their style in fabrics. Another fun task associated with the stash club is the challenge of making a block from the stash mail out. This is my version.

This weekend I'd like to get to a bit of peaceful hand piecing. We'll see. Amazing how quickly a weekend passes!!

Time for a destash

It's been a big year thus far. All children now at school..the oldest one in high school. I've never been busier. In some ways. More demands, perhaps a bit more time alone. Anyway whatever it is, I've decided it is time for a destash.
My first point of call is Stash and Treasure at Marrickville Town Hall next Saturday 12th May. It runs from 9 am till 2 pm.
I'll have bits and bobs..fabric, yarn etc.  I will be sharing a stall with Dolores whom I'm sure will have some lovely stuff.  Hopefully we'll both leave with less than what we arrived with!!
